Abstract :

Plectranthus amboinicus is a perennial succulent herb characterized by thick, fleshy, and aromatic leaves cov ered with soft hairs. The leaves possess a strong oregano like aroma due to the presence of essential oils. The plant typically grows up to 30–90 cm in height and produces small flowers arranged in terminal spikes. It thrives well in warm climates and can be easily propagated through stem cuttings. This study aims to evaluate with the phyto chemical screening using different solvent extracts, name ly chloroform and ethanolic extract, additionally find the antibacterial activity of Plectranthus amboinicus. Dried and powdered samples were subjected to solvent extrac tion through Soxhlet methods. Each extract was analyzed qualitatively for the presence of major phytochemical groups such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, glycosides, phenols, and terpenoids using standard proto cols. The results revealed that ethanolic extract contained the highest variety of phytochemicals, indicating their ef ficiency in extracting both polar and semi-polar com pounds followed by chloroform. The test against patho genic bacterial strains involved various concentrations of sample extract (100, 150, and 200 mg/mL) and they all showed good activity.
